They are ultrathin, lightweight and also highly flexible - so much so in fact, that they can be wrapped around a single strand of human hair. These new solar cells are one-tenth the size of the thinnest solar cells currently available on the market.

They were developed by Martin Kaltenbrunner, Siegfried Bauer and other researchers from the Johannes Kepler University of Austria and Tsuyoshi Sekitani and others from University of Tokyo.
